Two Types of Gym Shorts

Categorize from a shorts factory perspective.
1. Seamless knitting shorts

Seamless shorts are a kind of shorts made by special seamless knitting technology. The circular knitting machine weaves the main part of the shorts like socks at one time, which reduces the sewing process in traditional sewing and makes the shorts fit more comfortably.

Meanwhile, a small amount of sewing is reserved in necessary parts to ensure structure and durability.

2. Cut & sew shorts

Cut & sew shorts are made of a piece of fabric, not directly from yarns. This kind of shorts is designed and made traditionally. Compared with seamless shorts, it contain more seams in structure. Many wholesalers and brand’ keepers love those athletic shorts because of their relatively low order quantity, diverse styles, and easy collocation.

EXPLORE

Recommended materials for producing athletic shorts

When manufacturing gym shorts, the fabric choices are super important because they need to stretch well, let air in, wick away sweat, and feel nice against your skin. Here are some materials often used to produce workout shorts for running, cycling, boxing, etc.:

  1. Nylon: It’s a man-made fiber that’s stretchy and tough. It’s often mixed with spandex to make shorts, leggings, and fitness clothing that can stretch a lot.

  2. Spandex (E.g.: Lycra®): Spandex is a stretchy fiber that can really go the distance. Lycra® is a spandex brand famous for its bouncy, stretching up to 500% and then snapping back into place. But now the production technology of spandex is becoming more and more mature, and many brands of spandex can compete with Lycra at a more reasonable cost.

  3. Polyester: Also known as terylene, it’s a man-made fiber liked for its strength and how it can bounce back after stretching. But it’s not as good as nylon at wicking away sweat and can get static and pilling.

  4. Modal: Modal is a man-made fiber from wood pulp that’s soft, absorbs moisture, and hangs nicely, but it’s a bit pricier and can get fuzzy.
  5. Bamboo Fiber: Made from bamboo, this natural fiber is soft, breathable, and antibacterial, but it might not last as long and could get stiff.
  6. Cotton: Pure cotton is a natural fiber that’s comfy and nice on the skin, but it doesn’t breathe as well when it’s sweaty, and it can get rough.
  7. Organic Cotton: It’s like regular cotton but grown without chemicals like pesticides, making it better for the environment.

  8. Jacquard Fabric: Some yoga pants might use this fancy fabric with special patterns or textures. It’s usually made from man-made fibers and is stretchy and shapely.

When picking what to make gym shorts out of, custom shorts manufacturers think about who will buy them, how much it costs, what the shorts need to do, and how kind they are to the planet.

Mixing different fibers is popular because it gets the best of both worlds like nylon and spandex mixed for a stretchy, comfy, and long-lasting pair of sweat shorts.
